Evening Glow

The summer rainy season in Florida offers a great opportunity to explore wetlands and swampy areas that fill with water that normally are dry. I made this image on a rainy summers evening in the last few minutes of daylight. The swamps with the rain soaked trees and vegetation take on a wonderful glow at this time of day. I waded knee deep in water searching for the right composition to show the soft light that was present. I had to completely cover my entire body, face and hands to fight off the army of mosquitoes from attacking me as I made my way though the swamp. It is gratifying to be able to come away with an image that reveals the beauty of the swap in these conditions. I cherish the times that I get to these locations and enjoy a time of quiet and solitude.

Santee State Park

I made a stop in S.C. at Santee State Park while traveling back from up north.  I found an interesting swamp near by with some nice cypress trees.  After the sun had set I waded out through the swamp with my tripod and camera to look for an area to photograph.  The light at this time of day is soft and directional and provides nice detail in the scene.  This region of South Carolina has plenty of areas to explore and I hope to revisit it again to spend more time there.

Welcome

Welcome to my new web site.  I have neglected to construct a new site for the past few years because of traveling full time in a motorhome, but finally I found some time to get this site built .  I plan on sharing some of my photographs and photography experiences I have had over the years.  My background with photography started in the mid 60's back in high school and still keeps me busy today.  Most of my work has been done with a large format camera using black and white film.  It has been five years now that I made to switch to go completely to the digital format and have enjoyed the process.  I look forward to hearing back from you on some topics that I might bring up.  As photographers we share a common bond for things of beauty and a sense of mystery that can be found in nature.
